How VCAT evaluated candidates
We asked candidates to respond to the following questions.
What actions have you taken that demonstrate your commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions?
Do you support the current ban on fracked gas in new buildings in Victoria?
What strategies would you propose to facilitate low-emission retrofits and renovations in existing buildings?
What actions would you take to incentivize active and public transportation in Victoria?
Where do you stand on Missing Middle Housing?
What action will you take to incorporate the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People into local government decisions?
We used these criteria in our evaluation of the candidates:
How they answered the survey questions. We weren’t looking for simple yes or no answers but rather for each candidate’s depth of understanding of the issues.
We also looked at candidates’ websites provided at the Civic Info BC website
for experience in leadership, governance, and advocacy work
for breadth of knowledge on climate, democracy, and Indigenous rights
for concrete ideas for solutions on a range of issues such as housing, affordability, transportation, and health care.
